Qishan Old Street is located around Zhongshan Road and Zhongzheng Road in Qishan District, Kaohsiung City, and is the most completely preserved historical street block in the mountain towns of Kaohsiung. Qishan District的開發可追溯至清領時期，早年因地處旗山溪中游平原and山麓交界，土壤肥沃、水源充足，成為平埔族馬卡道族and漢人開墾的重要據點。清乾隆年間，福建漳州、泉州一帶的移民沿旗山溪上行拓墾，建立「蕃薯藔」庄頭，種植甘蔗、稻米and花生，並設立「蕃薯藔街」作為物資集散中心。日治初期，「蕃薯藔廳」曾為台南州轄下的一級行政區，後因行政區劃調整and糖業勃興的重要性，於 1920 年正式更名為「旗山」，這也是「ChiShan Old Street」地名由來的關鍵年代。

ChiShan Old Street的建築之所以能保存如此完整，and戰後ChiShan Sugar Factory的延續經營有密切關係。1970 年代台灣都市更新and老街拆除風潮興起，全台許多日治時期老街屋被改建成現代水泥樓房，但旗山因糖廠員工and在地居民持續居住使用，加上地方人士and文史工作者的奔走呼籲，老街的原始風貌才得以保留。1990 年代起，Kaohsiung縣政府（現為Kaohsiung City政府）陸續將ChiShan Old Street的中山路andSurroundings巷弄登錄為歷史建築，並推動「中山路老街再造」計畫，協助店家修復立面、更新騎樓，使百年風華得以延續。2001 年內政部亦將旗山中山路老街指定為「台灣歷史十大魅力街道」之一，是研究日治時期商業街屋and台灣糖業文化的重要戶外教室。
The scope of Qishan Old Street takes Zhongshan Road as the main axis, starting from Huazhong Street in the east and ending at Zhonghua Road in the west. The nearby Zhongzheng Road, Fuxing Street, and Yonghe Street are equally bustling extended business districts. The entire street block is located on the alluvial plain on the north bank of the Qishan River, at an altitude of about 50 meters, with a flat and open geographical environment. It is the most suitable historical street block for walking in the nine districts of Kaohsiung's mountain towns. Qishan District has convenient transportation. Located in the northeast corner of Kaohsiung City, it connects to Meinong, Shanlin, and Liugui to the north; Tianliao and Gangshan to the south; and delves deep into Neimen to the east. It is an important gateway for tourism in Kaohsiung's mountain towns.

The first stop is the century-old streethouse complex on the eastern section of Zhongshan Road. It retains the most complete Baroque red brick buildings in Qishan, including the former sites of early banks, restaurants and grocery stores. The facade has complex gables, arched windows and washed stone reliefs, making it a favorite among photography enthusiasts.Many stores still maintain traditional wooden doors and old-fashioned signboards, so you can savor the nostalgic atmosphere of time-honored stores while shopping.It is recommended to stay here for 1 to 2 hours, take photos and enjoy it slowly.

The third stop is the creative and cultural shops on the western section of Zhongshan Road. Many local youths have returned to their hometowns to open small creative shops here, including handmade leather goods, indigo-dyed cloth bags, paper umbrella DIY, banana cakes, and coffee shops. Modern creative elements are integrated into traditional street houses, making it a representative area of the old street where the old and new blend. The fourth stop is the nearby Qishan Sugar Refinery, which is about a 10-minute walk away. It preserves the sugar refinery office, warehouses, and sugar-making equipment from the Japanese colonial period, and has now been transformed into a cultural and creative park and the flagship store for Taisugar popsicles.

Qishan Old Street has its own characteristics in all four seasons. Spring in Qishan, with its mild weather and abundant sunshine, is the most suitable time for a leisurely stroll on the old street. The nearby Qishan banana and lychee orchards are in full bloom, making it highly recommended to combine your trip with a local orchard fruit-picking experience. Although summer is hot, the old street is lined with shops, well-shaded arcades, ice shops, and old star fruit juice stores, making it the best time to enjoy ice and cool down.
